Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender+ Education - Past and Present
It is important to know and acknowledge Scotland's checkered history with LGBT+ education and inclusiveness, else we are doomed to repeat it.
Until the year 2000 it was illegal to "intentionally promote homosexuality or publish material with the intention of promoting homosexuality" or "promote the teaching in any public school of the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship".
This was known as section 28
20 years on from this the Scottish education system has evolved and with the implementation of the Curriculum for Excellence, which holds health and wellbeing at its core, Scottish education is more inclusive than ever.
